I Saw God Playing Tag in the Wind by Mollie Bond

“I saw God playing tag in the wind through those trees.” My aunt said examining the photos of the Sequoia trees she saw during her last vacation at Yosemite. “I also saw God in those little purple flowers next to that tree, and just had to take a picture.”

Such tenderness next to such strength….

The strength these trees have is tremendous. The wind whips at speeds through the valley like an Indy car. Years and years of growth formed the massive trees to be so strong, so unyielding, so dignified. These trees are so old and large; a path runs through one large enough for those who built the hole to pass through…in their stagecoaches.

Then a miniature flower, full of vibrant color, posed next to the tree. Although small, the life it held spoke just as loudly to my aunt as the tree that shielded it from weather and other elements.

I can almost imagine the root system guarding the flower like a shepherd protects the littlest lamb in his flock.

“See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and his arm rules for him….He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young” (Isaiah 40:10-11).

Isaiah shows two arms of God. One arm has justice and strong power. The other carries the lambs and holds them gently to his heart.

Although the trees majestically rule the scenery, the tender flower caught my aunt’s attention too. The tree offered strength and protection just as God does. The flower offered tenderness. God is strong, and he is tender.

Look for glimpses in your world of God’s strong power and perfect tenderness.
