“I’m busy” seems to be everyone’s mantra nowadays.
Sometimes we have no choice about our busyness: births, holidays, sickness, family problems and life transitions interrupt our schedules without notice.
But most of our lives, we choose what will keep us busy, and what keeps us busy is a reflection of our values and priorities.
Even though we tend to think of busyness in a positive way, it is usually the result of pride, lack of wisdom and planning, or laziness. And it has become a national problem.
The answer: Asking God how He wants us spending our time and energy.
Nuggets of Truth from the Bible that Can Help Us do this:
- Johns 15--Jesus says He's glorified when we “bear much fruit." Spreading ourselves too thin is not as fruitful as doing fewer things, but doing them well.
- Ephesians 2:10--God has purposes for each of us. If we are busy doing other things, we may miss the things He planned!
- Colossians 2:13--God is our boss! And He never expects more of us than what we can give.
- 1 Peter 4:10--We should be faithful stewards of the gifts God has given us.
- If you have too many commitments, now is a good time to cut back.
- If you have wasted time and been irresponsible, now is a good time to de-clutter your schedule and set solid priorities.
No one is more worthy of our best efforts and top priorities than Christ:
“To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever!...He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God… On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS [and He says]: “Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” Revelation 1:5,6; 19:11-16; 22:12
