Do You Keep Christ Waiting? by Gail Purath

Is your heart Christ's Home?

Years ago I read a little booklet called “My Heart Christ’s Home."* It compares the human heart to a house and explains the way Christ’s presence changes each "room" in that house.

There's the Library,‘the study of the mind,’where Christ helps the new Christian clean the unwholesome reading matter from the shelves.

Then in the Dining Room Christ warns the new Christian to develop an appetite for the right kinds of "soul" food.

In the Workshop Christ shows the new Christian how to use his skills to produce meaningful work.

This is an interesting and relevant way to describe how Christ transforms us when we ask Him to live in us. But one room description in this little booklet is especially meaningful to me. It's the Drawing Room where Christ promises to meet with the new Christian every morning.

At first, the new Christian meets with Christ faithfully, but gradually he becomes “too busy.” Then, one morning as he hurries past the drawing room, he sees Christ sitting alone.

“Have you been here all these mornings?” he asks the Lord.

“Yes” Christ says, “I told you I would be here….You have been thinking of the quiet time, of the Bible study and prayer time, as a factor in your own spiritual progress, but you have forgotten that this hour means something to me also. Remember, I love you…I desire your fellowship.” *

I regularly need to remind myself of this aspect of my relationship with Christ. When I read the Bible, do I think about what a great privilege it is to listen to the voice of God through His Word or do I see it as a "duty"?

When I pray, do I realize the great privilege it is to speak directly to the all knowing Creator of the universe?  Or do I make it a formal way to start a meal or end a meeting?

It's easy to get caught up in a ritual and forget that Christ and I have a relationship, but this little booklet helps me remember….

Every day, Christ--my Friend, my Confidant, my Counselor, my Savior is eager to meet with me…I don't want to keep him waiting!
